Why I Quit My Agency Job to Build My Own Design Practice

On paper, I had what most designers work toward. A strong salary, steady promotions, and a leadership role at a successful agency.

Over time, the work stopped feeling like growth. It started feeling predictable.

For almost four years, I managed a design team and led branding work across a wide range of clients. I learned how to deliver at scale, build reliable systems, and take projects from messy brief to finished work. That experience shaped how I work today.

At a certain point, I realized I wanted to be closer to the work, closer to the decisions, and more intentional about what I was building.

So I made the decision to step out on my own.

Some things you can’t delegate. Creative vision is one of them. Today, my work lives in two connected lanes:

Keith Paul Acton is my design practice where I partner with small businesses, startups, and growing brands on identity, creative direction, and digital work that makes an impact.

Serotonin Studio is my creative space for producing premium, handcrafted design assets and resources that help designers elevate their work.

Right now, I’m spending time in Mexico City, focused on building my client practice and preparing the first release of Serotonin Studio.

If you’re building something and need thoughtful, high-quality design, that’s the work I’m here to do.

This is the kind of work I’m here to do.
